Medical Technologist

Proof of Internship CSEC passes (grades 1-3) in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and one (1) other approved academic subject.

Radiography

Letter of completion of Program from Director, SMRT, UWI.

Dietitian

Proof of internship

Psychology

2500 supervised practice hours- (log, letter) Foreign nationals- 500 supervised practice hours, in addition to cultural experience evidence. Foreign Nationals- Copy of the applicant's current license to practice (Certified by a notary public)

Suspension of License

Should the professional choose not to practice, or to be outside of this jurisdiction, the professional is required to advise the Council and decide whether to continue with annual licensure or to suspend the license?

Possible reasons for suspending a license.

  • Extended period of Study
  • Temporary or Permanent inability to work in the Professional Field
  • Temporary engagement in an unrelated Professional Field
  • Relocation with the intention of not pursuing employment in the Professional Field

CREDIT HOURS FOR RENEWAL

  • All Professionals registered under the CPSM must renew their practice licenses annually.
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) also allows Professionals to earn Credit Hours needed for annual renewal.
  • Credit Hours for renewal in any year must be earned between April 1 of the previous year and March 31 of the current year.
  • Proof of Credit Hours earned must be submitted at the same time as the renewal application and annual fee for the new year.
  • The annual requirement for each Profession is listed in the Schedule below.

TEMPORARY REDUCTION OF CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION (CME) REQUIREMENTS DUE TO HURRICANE MELLISSA.

Public Health Inspectors

The Jamaica Association of Public Health Inspectors (JaPHI) has taken the following decision. Credit hours required for renewal for 2026/2027 have been reduced by 50%, owing to the number of PHIs impacted by Hurricane Melissa and its associated recovery strategies. The number of credit hours required is 7.5 or more. Credit hour requirements will revert to 15 for the 2027/2028 period.

 

Professionals in Nutrition and Dietetics

The Jamaica Association of Professionals in Nutrition and Dietetics (JaPINAD) has taken the following decision. Credit hours required for renewal for 2026/2027 have been reduced by 50%. The number of credit hours required is 7.5 or more and should include at least one(1) credit hour of Ethics. Clients who were in arrears with the Ethics hours for the 2025/2026 period are requested to present the two (2) credit hours required for that period in addition to the 50% concession for the current renewal period.

Credit hour requirements will revert to fifteen (15), including two (2) Ethics, for the 2027/2028 period.

 

Radiographers

The Society of Radiographers Jamaica hereby authorises a temporary reduction of Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements by fifty percent (50%) for eligible radiographers for the current CME cycle.

This eligibility is contingent on the following criteria:

  • The applicant resides in areas officially identified as impacted by Hurricane Mellissa, and or/
  • The applicant is employed at health care facilities that experienced severe disruption, infrastructural damage, or operational limitations as a direct result of the hurricane.

Application Process:

To access this reduction, affected members are required to submit a formal written request to the Society. This letter must include:

  1. Full name and registration number
  2. Place of employment (including facility name and location)
  3. Residential address
  4. A brief description of how Hurricane Mellissa affected their ability to participate in CME activities (e.g., displacement, loss of utilities, increased clinical workload, damage to workplace, etc.)
  5. Any supporting documentation, where available (e.g., employer confirmation, proof of residence in an affected area)

All requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure fairness and transparency.
